8 Alternatives to Sedona’s Most Popular Hikes
Sedona’s stunning scenery beckons millions of hikers from all over the world to experience the natural wonders it has to offer. With this popularity comes crowds, and if you’ve ever tried to snag a parking spot at one of Sedona’s most popular trails, you know exactly what I mean.
Fortunately, there are plenty of hikes off the beaten path that can give you a similar experience with a little more peace and quiet.
Overcrowded Hike #1: Devil’s Bridge
Devil’s Bridge is a natural arch that’s set against a stunning landscape, just begging you to walk on top and snap a photo. Unfortunately, you’ll likely have to wait in line for your turn for that photo, and the line can get stupid long. Yes, I debated whether to use that word, but it really says it best.

Vultee Arch
Mileage 5.1
Elevation gain 2186
Vultee Arch looks similar to Devil’s Bridge, and you can walk on top of it, too. The only drawback is that the backdrop isn’t as stunning, but hey, you might have it all to yourself. Hike in via the Sterling Pass Trail or drive a 4×4 to get most of the way there.
Fay Canyon Arch
Mileage 1.5
Elevation gain 330
Fay Canyon Arch is nestled against the cliffs of Fay Canyon, providing nice views and giving adventurous hikers the opportunity to walk across the top. As a bonus, you won’t have to fight for parking.

Overcrowded Hike #2: Subway Cave
Sure, it’s kind of cool, but is it cool if you have to share it with 200 other people? That place is literally crawling with tourists trying to get an overrated Instagram shot, and the parking situation can get downright ridiculous.

Keyhole Cave
Mileage 2.1
Elevation gain 561
Inside the enormous Keyhole Cave, adventurous hikers can climb up to the upper level. Or, stay on the ground floor and enjoy the view.
Raven Caves
Mileage 0.5
Elevation gain 126
Wander a surprisingly long tunnel of interconnected caves. No epic Instagram shot, but is that really what you came for?

Robbers Roost
Mileage 0.8
Elevation gain 253
Located a little bit out of town along a dirt road means you are likely to have this cave, also known as Shaman Cave, to yourself. A perfectly circular hole (not shown) makes a great place for a photo.
Overcrowded Hike #3: Cathedral Rock
Okay, so there’s supposedly a vortex here where you can feel the earth’s energy, but if you don’t feel that same energy most places in Sedona, what is wrong with you? Plus, you have to take the shuttle bus to the trailhead during the most busy times, and who has time for that?

Steamboat Rock
Mileage 2.6
Elevation gain 788
Steamboat Rock has the same type of hiking vibe at Cathedral Rock. You’ll scramble your way up the rock layers to the base of the steamboat and panoramic views. Bonus, no shuttle bus required.
Mushroom Rock
Mileage 5.1
Elevation gain 1477
Mushroom Rock looks like a mushroom from one angle and Starship Enterprise from the other. It’s easy to get on top, so you’ll still get an epic photo op.

Snoopy Rock
Mileage 2.1
Elevation gain 650
Climb up on a rock that (sort of) looks like the adorable cartoon dog lying on its back. Plus, enjoy great views of Sedona.
