Where to See Fall Color in Arizona
Arizona may be better known for its saguaro cactuses and red rocks than for its fall color, but determined leaf peepers are sure to be delighted by the show that’s put on here every October.
From the famous yellow aspens in Northern Arizona to the bright orange maple leaves in the mountains of central and southern Arizona, there is something for everyone to discover throughout the state.
Northern Arizona
Aspen Nature Loop, Flagstaff
See the famous groves of aspen aglow in brilliant shades of gold. This is easy enough for the whole family, but you will be sharing the trail with others (and maybe a LOT of others).

West Fork Canyon, Sedona
This hike has it all, from red rock narrows to a glittering creek to an impressive display of orange and red, thanks to the maple trees lining the creek. Very popular, so go early.

Sterling Pass, Sedona
If West Fork is too packed for your liking, try this trail that passes through a dense, shady forest that is sure to be decorated in radiant autumn glory.

Barbershop Trail, Mogollon Rim
In summer, this trail that’s part of the Cabin Loop delights with springs, wildflowers, and rushing creeks. In autumn, it transforms into a leaf peeping wonderland.

The fall color here begins right at the parking lot and treats hikers to a nonstop show of leaves aflame in autumn splendor. See Spring makes a worthy destination.

Horton Creek, Payson
Though there isn’t as much fall color here as at See Canyon, you’ll still enjoy splashes of color as you follow this perennial creek through a forested fantasyland.

Ramsey Canyon, Sierra Vista
Benches, rocking chairs, bird feeders, and historic homes make this trail more of a stroll than a hike. More ambitious hikers can venture into the Miller Peak Wilderness.

Miller Canyon, Sierra Vista
This pretty canyon is packed with dense foliage that attracts birds and birdwatchers alike. You’ll find clusters of fiery maple leaves as you follow the creek up canyon.

Marshall Gulch, Tucson
It’s hard to find a hike prettier than this one on Mount Lemmon, and in the fall, it lights up in every shade of orange and amber imaginable.
